New License Day: Colorado!

Many who know me know that I firmly believe that mental health care is crucial and should be accessible. While I can’t lower costs at the pump, or raise wages; I can work to add coverage areas. In this vein, I have added another state license. I can now accept clients located in the beautiful state of Colorado. Colorado joins the list of states, New York, New Jersey, as well as Maine, as states I have a full independent license in. Moving forward, I will be able to accept both some insurance as well as private pay clients living and working in Colorado.

One issue in finding a therapist has always been insurance and out-of-pocket expense. Each insurance company credentials providers individually, and while there are companies that help with insurance credentialing, they are not perfect and do not work with all insurances, meaning providers are often only able to accept some insurance, not even all the prevalent local insurances. Starting in 2025, Jacob started the credentialing process with some of the major local insurance companies to help fill these coverage gaps and as of January 2026 has been able to directly accept and bill most Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield commercial insurance plans.

Another common problem is that each state runs its own licensing and verification program. Not all states use the same terminology, and many states have different requirements in order to become licensed. On top of this, insurance often dictates where a client must be located at the time of service, and most states also have regulations surrounding this as well. What this means for you is that in order to have a therapy session, you must be physically located in a state in which your therapist is licensed and able to accept your insurance. Historically, this has not been an issue with in-person sessions as both the client and therapist would be physically located in the same room; however, with the explosion of Telehealth sessions, this has led to frustrations and difficulties. Now, the therapist and the client can be in different locations, but the client has to be in a state or country in which the therapist is licensed. Because of this, I added New Jersey in 2023 and Maine in 2024. I am now happy to announce that I am now also licensed in Colorado, bringing the total number of states to four. Please note, there may be a delay in being able to accept insurance in Colorado, but I am working towards this next.

If you or a loved one lives in the state of Colorado and think we may be a good fit to work together, don’t hesitate to reach out today!
